How to Make Web Design Easy

When you’re just getting started with web designing, it can seem overwhelming. There are a lot of options for beginners, as well as programs, certification courses, and online tools. Here are a couple of tips and tricks to make everything go a bit easier.

Online Paid Certification & Courses

If you choose not to get an education through college, another option is getting certified online. If you ever plan on having private clients hire you to web design, you should at least be certified. Having a certification helps you to increase the number of clients you can take in, as well as teaches you the basics of web design.

There are many different companies and websites which offer a certification program that you can follow to get your certification. The best thing to do is do your research before picking the company to do your training through. Some companies offer free web design training, but you do not get certified. This can be a good option if you are just starting in web design and trying to figure out if you want to make this a career.

Free Videos & Resources

For some, finding videos online and websites that share the basics of web design is the best place to go for their web design education.

A great resource I constantly use is W3Schools. Besides that, I am constantly using Google and Youtube to search and learn from different people all over.

Practice

“Practice makes perfect.” There is a reason this saying is so popular–it really does work. The more you practice your web designing skills, the better you will get at them. You can practice on your own website or by helping others make theirs better.  Choose goals and skills you’d like to improve and work on web design projects that train them.

Observe what makes an effective website, and try to mimic that at first. Once you understand the rules, you’ll be able to adapt them to your own style. If you do not plan on having clients, or if you are just trying to make a website for yourself, doing this could be a great option.

Ask For Advice

There is no shame in asking for advice. If you have questions about a certain part of creating a website, you should ask someone. You could always go and find a forum where there are professionals helping. Some good forums include this subReddit, Quora, Stack Overflow, WordPress, Web Design Forums, SitePoint. This is a great way to get some personal advice that could greatly benefit you and the website you are designing.

We found a forum where experts were giving advice and we found real advice from an expert on how to make web design easier. She says,

“Go beyond the tools and take up an interest in culture. Listen to music, read books, and watch films. Take note of how they subtly and strategically communicate their message and apply this to your work. After all, you have to be interested in culture to design for it.”

Get A Formal Education

There are many different places where you can get an education on how to design websites.

Many professionals will go into a school specifically for web design. They will then receive their Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in web design. Having a degree opens up so many more opportunities for you, as many big companies and businesses are looking for college graduates to join their web design team.

Many different colleges offer a web design program. Researching about your future college options is one of the best things you can do in preparation for your career. Finding a college that has a high-rated web design program, as well as a good tuition cost is very important.

To get your bachelor’s degree, you will be in school for 4 years. To get a Master’s, you will be in school for an additional 1 to 3 years. Getting a degree in web design is the best way to receive an education for designing websites. You will learn more from getting a college degree than you will from trying to understand web design from any other resource. You’ll also be able to talk to professors who have more qualifications. They can provide real-world experience and answer questions as they appear.

Observe Others and How They Have Done it

Getting inspiration from other websites and how they are designed is a great way to give yourself ideas on how to fix problems in your own website. Following some of your favorite web designers on social media platforms is a great way to learn some of their tips and tricks. Designers usually aren’t shy about displaying their work, so look at what the professionals are doing. This can help you develop your own web design skills.

Use Templates

There is no shame in using templates. In fact, the more you stick to the basics, the less chance you have for mistakes to occur. There are many different templates out there to help with web design. Some are free and others you can purchase to aid you in web design.

Stick With the Basics… And Then Spice it Up

Beginning with the basics helps you know that you are doing everything correctly. Especially when you are a beginner web designer, starting with the basic process of web designing will help you. The more you work on websites, the more tricks and tips you will learn and know how to apply.

After you have gone through and created a basic website, you can then go and spice it up. Adding special touches to make the website stand out will increase the number of people who will visit your website. This will increase the money you receive from your website.

Don’t Get in Over Your Head

Before starting anything, you should make sure you know enough about it to avoid any unnecessary stress. When you are just a beginner web designer, make sure you do not try to do anything which is going to be too crazy for you to handle. You can do this by making sure you have completed enough courses and training to feel confident in your web design skills. Start off easy and do more special effects after you have become comfortable with your skillset.

Brush Up on Your Coding (HTML & CSS)

Obviously, when you are working online, having a basic knowledge of coding can be incredibly helpful. Understanding tips and tricks to make your work go by faster and easier will be very beneficial for you. Google different programs and Youtube videos you can watch to help you learn more about coding and how you can use it in your web design process.

Knowing basic HTML & CSS can save you from being stuck with all the problems with using templates and website builders.

Plan Out Your Website Before Doing Anything

Creating a plan can be helpful in almost anything you do and the same goes for web design. Before you do anything, you should have an idea in your head of how you want your website to look once completed. You should plan things like:

Having these things planned out beforehand will make things go smoother because you already know what you are going to do, now you just need to do it. It can make things go faster because you do not have to make as many decisions during the designing process since you have already made them.

Include Social Share Buttons

Putting social media share buttons will increase the number of people you have following your business on social media. Having more followers on social media will also increase the number of visitors to your website. This is a good cycle you want your website to get stuck in. Simply including those share buttons can do you a great service.

Stay Mobile Friendly

Where there are so many people who primarily use their phones for personal internet purposes, it is a good idea to have your website mobile user-friendly. Many website templates offer versions for desktop and mobile users. Picking the best one is incredibly important for the success of your website. If you keep in mind that most visitors to your website will be from mobile, it should be obvious that you should accommodate those users.

Create an Easy To Use Navigation System

We’ve all been on websites where it is frustrating to even be on it because of how confusing the website is. If you want to make a website that the clients will enjoy navigating, make sure it is easy and visually appealing to navigate. Have things clearly labeled and easily accessible from the home page. Having websites and web pages that are easily navigated will greatly improve your reputation as a web designer. This will help you have more potential clients and keep your current ones happy.
